For whatever reason, it was just a group of two today for a trip up Mount Tengu. We head for the campground area, as opposed to the usual wooded area at the top, near the observation platform. We passed many people leaving back to Sapporo from a weekend of camping. We saw and heard a number of birds that would not be found near the observation platform area. The Eurasian Bullfinch and the Brown-headed Thrush in particular. I got glimpses of both and heard long periods of their call and songs. The Oriental Cuckoos were abundant as well. We later traveled to a spot just outside the campground, that has a view of mountain peaks inland and towards the ocean. We were hoping to catch a glimpse of an Oriental Honey Buzzard, but that didn’t happen. The trip seemed hurried thru the campground, so I would like to try again and spend more time.
